New Internet browsers from Microsoft and Google. Is It The End of Affiliate Marketing
Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 There have been a lot of talk about 2 new browsers - I.E. 8 from Microsoft and Chrome form Google. Some affiliate forums where bombarded with posts proclaiming the end of affiliate marketing.
The reason why so many people paniced was that there was a gossip that new browsers would block affiliate cookies. But it was all B.S.
I have tested both I.E. 8 and Chrome Beta and all affiliate links were working fine. None of these two was blocking cookies when using default setting. The user will need to change settings manually and this is nothing new.
The thing is that cookies are not only used by merchants to track theirs affiliates but by most of the forums and websites that want to remember their visitors’ preferences. So, believe me or not but no browser in a near future will block cookies on default settings because it will make surfing much more difficult.
But blocking affiliate cookies by new browser wasn’t 100% B.S.
Black hatters will get a slap in their face. It has been extremely popular recenlty to stuff affiliates cookies by using iframes and images. This will not be working anymore. Both I.E. 8 and Chrome will block them.
With Ebay going to court against its affiliates who used cookie stuffing, new browsers are another bad news for black hatters.
Bit if you are using normal links to refer your visitors, don’t worry you will be fine.
